With the support of DSWF, UCF works closely with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) on the Waterways project across Queen Elizabeth National Park. UCF’s strategic positioning of boat stations helps UWA reduce elephant and hippo poaching, bushmeat smuggling, wildlife and ivory trafficking (on the increase across sub-Saharan Africa). Control of illegal fishing and fishing techniques is already increasing fishermen’s legal catches. Additionally, the boats support waterborne tourism and provide an invaluable rescue service to the 11 fishing villages on Lakes George and Edward. 

The success of the Waterways project has provided a catalyst to the recovery of wildlife in the heavily poached 400km2 Dura sector corridor in northern Queen Elizabeth National Park. With DSWF support, in 2010 UCF has constructed Kamulikwezi, our fourth marine ranger station in QENP, and constructed our first accommodation block for UWA rangers at nearby Kahendero, facilities that will dramatically ramp up UWA anti-poaching activity. 

Painted Dog Conservation's mission is to protect and increase the range and numbers of painted dog (Lycaon pictus) both in Zimbabwe and elsewhere in Africa, through conservation, education and community involvement. Based on the fringe of Hwange National Park, the initial emphasis was to identify the critical issues and, armed with this knowledge, develop a strategy that would make a substantial, lasting contribution to painted dogs, nature conservation and, very importantly, to the lives of the local people. Consequently a multi faceted programme now employs over 50 local people, undertaking direct action policies such as the rehabilitation of injured or orphaned painted dogs and Anti Poaching Units, backed up by an extensive conservation education programme centred on its purpose built Children's Bush Camp.

Phoenix is a Russian environmental non-governmental organisation responding promptly to conservation threats in the Russian Far East. Our projects are aimed at conserving endangered wildlife of the region and wild habitats through combination of anti-poaching, environmental education and community outreach in close collaboration with local NGOs, authorities, scientists, mass media, and local people.

Wildlife Trust of India (WTI) is a non-profit conservation organisation, committed to urgent action that works towards the protection of India's wildlife and wild habitats. Its mission is to conserve nature, especially endangered species and threatened habitats, in partnership with communities and governments.

One of India's key wildlife and forest conservation action agencies, WTI propels some of India's most critical and front-running wildlife conservation action through its numerous and diverse projects.

Established in November 1998, WTI has, in just over a decade, made significant innovative and pioneering contributions to wildlife conservation in India.

WTI's activities include rescue and rehabilitation, species survey and recovery,　habitat securement, capacity building of frontline forest staff & insurance, enforcement and wildlife trade control, litigation and policy, community-based conservation and awareness campaigns.

WTI is a registered charity in India (under Section 12A of the Income Tax Act, 1961) and is mandated by its Board of Trustees to ensure that 85% of all specified donor monies go to the field.

Animals Asia Foundation, founded in 1998 by Jill Robinson MBE, is working to end bear bile farming in Asia. Through its flagship campaign, the Moon Bear Rescue, the foundation is saving hundreds of suffering, endangered bears from cruel bile farms in China and Vietnam and bringing them to its sanctuaries in those two countries to lead the remainder of their lives free from pain and fear.

FREELAND Foundation is an international organization with a headquarter in Asia. Our programs dedicated to stop human and wildlife trafficking which are designed to address the entire cycle of crimes against nature; from poaching and logging in protected areas, to smuggling and the subsequent sale and consumption in urban areas. Our comprehensive strategies are to engage public and policy makers, enhance law enforcement capacity and at the same time introduce alternative and sustainable livelihoods.

WildAid’s mission is to stop the illegal wildlife trade.  We work to protect what belongs to al of us – our global wildlife heritage – by stopping the demand for endangered and threatened species.

Estimated to be worth between US$10 - $20 billion a year, the illegal wildlife trade is depleting many species and threatening others with extinction.  Corruption, violence and conflict often go hand-in-hand with this trade and those purchasing illegal and endangered wildlife products are stealing some of our most precious natural resources. Despite the determined efforts of enforcement agencies and conservation organisations across the world, it is clear that as long as the demand for endangered wildlife persists, so will the trade.

WildAid’s approach of “conservation through communication” seeks to build the popular and political support necessary to end the demand for endangered wildlife. With over 80 wildlife Ambassadors, WildAid’s high-impact messages now reach well over 1 billion people each week in the worlds main consuming markets, leveraging tens of millions of dollars of pro-bono support. We believe we can persuade the world that the earth is worth saving.

Save the Elephants' mission is to secure a future for elephants and to sustain the beauty and ecological integrity of the places they live; to promote man¹s delight in their intelligence and the diversity of their world, and to develop a tolerant relationship between the two species.

The Species Survival Network is an international coalition of organizations from around the world whose specific focus is the conservation of wildlife that is or may be affected by international trade via the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES).

The Lusaka Agreement and the Lusaka Agreement Task Force

The Lusaka Agreement is an intergovernmental Agreement on co-operative enforcement operations directed at illegal trade in Wild Fauna and Flora in the African Region. The Agreement was adopted at a Ministerial Conference held under the auspices of the UNEP in Lusaka in 1994 and  its current membership comprises six African states namely: Republics of Congo (Brazzaville), Kenya, Uganda, Zambia, Kingdom of Lesotho and the United Republic of Tanzania.  Ethiopia, Swaziland and South Africa are signatories to the Agreement. Its main objective is for the Parties to undertake activities intended to reduce and ultimately eliminate illegal trade in wild fauna and flora. It  is the only existing practically oriented co-operative enforcement instrument implementing the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) and other biodiversity related multilateral agreements at regional level in Africa.

The Agreement established a Task Force (Lusaka Agreement Task Force – LATF) that has been operational since 1999 coordinating and conducting cooperative wildlife law enforcement operations in/and among the Parties.  

Mark Carwardine is a zoologist, an active and outspoken conservationist, an award-winning writer, a TV and radio presenter, a widely published photographer, a magazine columnist and a conservation consultant.

Mark is the chair of judges for the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation's Wildlife Artist of the Year and a conservation adviser.

Simon King OBE is an honorary vice president of DSWF providing expertise, advice and support to the Foundation.

Michael Vickers is a wildlife conservationist and photographer with a strong passion for tigers and travels regularly to India in search of the tiger in its natural habitat. His photographs provide colour and inspiration to the work of the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.

With technical expertise, and fourteen years experience in the photographic and television industry, Becky has a has a highly creative and professional approach to a diverse range of photographic and filming assignments.
