Phoenix tastes freedom at last

Phoenix tastes freedom at lastPhoenix, our orphaned elephant, has taken her first real steps to freedom. After six years of being cared for at Munda Wanda Wildlife Sanctuary, her safe relocation to Kafue South National Park in Zambia went without a hitch. On arrival she burst from her container and took off - just loving her new freedom - before suddenly realising the wild was a much larger and more frightening place, so turned tail and rushed back to the safety of her keepers!

Now she walks out each day with her keepers to get used to the unfamiliar sights and sounds and her favourite pastimes are bathing in the vast Kafue river and showering in sand! Baby elephant Zamma is due to join her very soon and we will keep you posted with their progress!

It is thanks to your support that we have been able to return these orphaned elephants to the wild.
