REGISTER NOW FOR AN EXCITING NEW EDUCATION INITIATIVE AND INSPIRE YOUR PUPILS.

The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation (DSWF) is proud to announce a new initiative aimed at stimulating the children in your school to take an active interest in the natural world and find ways to support and protect their fragile environment before it is too late.

Available NOW, the Global Canvas Education Pack is fun and informative and is packed with visual images. It is aimed at children between the ages of 8-14. It consists of:

    1. An introduction to the work of David Shepherd and the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation.
    2. Teachers Notes, written by the zoologist and radio presenter Mark Carwardine. These cover the important topics of atmospheric pollution, species extinction, endangered habitats and endangered species. These topics are written in such a way that they are also easily useable by older children doing more in-depth work.
    3. Pupils Worksheets. These are fun and instructive practical projects, designed by teachers, that the children can get involved with and learn about their environment at the same time. They cover such diverse topics as litter, composting, the water cycle, habitats, animal specialisations and one is linked with the children at the Iganyana Educational Bush Camp in Zimbabwe.
    4. A fun section including games and quizzes and weird and wonderful animal facts.
    5. Details of an annual, nationwide art competition for children of all ages. A selection of entries will be exhibited at a London venue and prizes awarded by David Shepherd and other celebrities who have lent their support to this education pack.
    6. A celebrity wall poster including details of the work of DSWF around the globe and messages of endorsement from celebrities, such as Sir David Attenborough, Gary Lineker, Rolf Harris and more.
    7. Fun and colourful animal fact sheets that can also be put up on the classroom wall.
    8. A CD-ROM giving details of the DSWF projects.
    9. A practical topic on how young people can do something positive to help endangered species and the habitats that they depend upon.

The pack is cross-curricular and has been designed to fulfil National Curriculum requirements in Science, Geography, English, Art, IT, PHSE.

It will be regularly updated via the DSWF website with additional worksheets, factual updates, feedback from other schools and details of fundraising initiatives. It comes in the form of an A4 ring-binder file, so that additions can be easily added without causing confusion.

THE BEST NEWS IS THAT ALL OF THIS COMES ABSOLUTELY FREE OF CHARGE TO SCHOOLS.

When you receive your new pack, you will be issued with a user name and password for use in the education section of our website. This will enable you to access and download new worksheets and animal fact sheets as they are added.

To register for a pack either email dswf@davidshepherd.org or telephone the charity headquarters on 01483 272323.

This pack has been trialled in tester schools and some of the comments are below:

"A fantastic idea - it brought a wider awareness to the children about their planet and how to respect and understand its fragile state. The CE Biology examinations are moving towards this direction by asking pupils about extinct species, etc, and therefore it contained very useful and relevant activities"

"We found plenty of variety within the worksheets and they were adaptable so that they could be used for all abilities"

"The pack provided a diversity of activities for all types of learning and also allows the teacher to insert their own teaching styles".

"We will be taking some tasks further next year as the pupils' excitement and enthusiasm for this subject was so great"

"The pupils were excited by the prospect of communicating with children of a completely different culture. We look forward to expanding on this next year"

"Clear, thought-provoking information provided in an accessible way. Manageable practical experiments that can be undertaken inside and outside the classroom allowing you to break free from the constraints of some traditional textbooks".

"A truly wonderful project that could only enhance a child's learning".

DSWF firmly believes that the future health of our planet and of all living things, rest with today's children. If we can help develop, inspire and encourage an interest in the natural world. Then this pack will have achieved its purpose.
