Leave a legacy

An up-to-date Will is vital if you want your wishes to be respected after your death. Naturally you will want to look after your family first, but you may also wish to leave a legacy to charities you have supported during your lifetime. A legacy to a registered charity is free from inheritance tax so does not only help a good cause but also helps to reduce your inheritance tax liability. Leaving a lasting gift to wildlife through the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation is easy - your legal adviser simply needs our address and registered charity number:

The David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation
61 Smithbrook Kilns
Cranleigh
Surrey GU6 8JJ

Registered charity number: 1106893

We have produced a short guide to help you understand some of the basics involved in leaving a legacy. While it is perfectly possible to make your own Will we would advise - especially if your wishes are not straightforward - that you consult a Solicitor. Using a Solicitor or Will service will ensure your Will is legally valid.

"My paintings have helped repay the enormous debt of gratitude I owe to wildlife - I like to call them my living legacy because, unlike me, my paintings will hopefully live on.

"Wildlife around the world is being decimated by an awesome onslaught of threats ranging from habitat destruction and pollution to wildlife crime.

"Three sub-species of tiger have disappeared forever; 98% of the world's black rhino have been slaughtered; more than half of Africa's elephants have been wiped out and 99% of Africa's painted dogs have been killed.

"By leaving a gift to wildlife in your Will, you can help our fight to save species struggling against extinction."

Founder and President of DSWF

"We share this fragile world with all creatures. Don't leave their survival to chance. Making a Will is one of the ways we ensure the world is a better place for those we care about. Please leave a lasting legacy to future generations."

Dame Judi Dench

"Over the years, through cricket I've been fortunate enough to travel around the world. I've had my share of testing experiences on the field, but that's nothing compared to the testing times constantly faced by countless species of wildlife and the brave men in the field trying to protect them.

"Laws are made to protect us and making a Will, for example, is a method of protection. Through a lawfully made Will we look after our family and friends - as a way of showing how much we care.

"Leaving a legacy to the David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation in your Will is no different - please consider leaving a legacy to wildlife. You can be secure in the knowledge that you'll be protecting and caring for many of the world's critically endangered mammals. I did."
