Holding events are often the most effective and enjoyable way to raise money for a charity. Here at DSWF we appreciate every fundraising event you sponsor or hold because every donation counts and your participation goes a long way in helping us do the best we can to protect endangered species. It’s also a great opportunity for you to have lots of fun and feel proud to have made a difference.

To get the most out of your event we've outlined some handy tips

  • Look to fundraise in a way that suits you, your strengths and interests
  •  Time the event so that you have time to train, so you can ensure people are available to join in/support you, that it doesn’t clash with any other major event and of course to allow time for you to get as many sponsors as possible
  • Let as many people as you can know about your event to gain maximum sponsorship and don’t forget to encourage them to Gift Aid their donation so we can claim an extra 28% from the Inland Revenue. Tell friends and family, work colleagues, local business, local communities and local press.
  • Do you need any posters/flyers etc? Can they be produced for free?
  • Use the internet to help spread the word.
  • You can use Just Giving or other specialised charity giving sites to make your fundraising more efficient and cost effective. Ask us for the necessay Gift Aid forms so that we can reclaim Gift Aid on all donations.
  • Do you need staff/equipment at your venue? Brief staff on the cause and the DSWF so that they can act as ambassadors for the charity; make sure you know how to use the equipment safely; does the venue have Public Liability insurance?
  • Do you need to inform the local council of your event?
  • Do you need a license to sell food or alcohol?
  • Is there somewhere safe to keep the money at the event?
  • Do you need a First Aider and have you got one?
  • Lastly, don’t get too bogged down in the details - it's meant to be fun!

Keep your eyes peeled for other events we may be holding and feel free to join in or spread the word. If you wish to hold your own event for the DSWF, get in touch and let us know 01483 272323. Or download the sponsorship form here. There's also a booklet of ideas to download as part of David's 80th birthday celebrations. Have fun!
